A chef's special isn't what's left over. It's what the kitchen felt like cooking that day.
Same here. Between orders I build whatever the leather suggests — a shape I invented on a Tuesday, a closure nobody asked for, a stitch pattern I wanted to try. Some of them are good enough that I make them again. Most of them never reach the shop.
I choose the hide, the weight and the colour. Every drop piece is 100% natural full-grain cowhide — the same ultra-quality leather as everything else on this site, cut by the same hands, at the same bench, for the same hours.
"£40 is nothing for what goes into one of these. That's the point — you're paying for the leather and the hours, not the shelf it sat on."
Once a month I release a small drop. Ten to fifteen pieces. You don't choose what you get — that's the whole point.
the ram
Every piece leaves this bench under my maker's stamp: a ram-headed figure holding a hammer.
It's Khnum — the ancient Egyptian god of creation, depicted with a ram's head, who was said to shape human beings by hand from Nile clay on his potter's wheel. Raw material, two hands, one at a time, none of them quite identical.
It seemed like the right thing to put on a mystery piece.
